CONSTAB Charge Enhancers
PP meltblown nonwovens are frequently used in air filtration applications. You find them for example in the middle layer of commonly used face masks, but also in many other applications from vacuum cleaner bags to filters in HVAC units.
The meltblown used in air filtration is usually electrostatically charged to significantly improve the filtration rate, especially for small particles, e.g., viruses or fine, respirable dust.
There are mainly two processes used to apply the electrostatic charge to the web, which are the following:
In the corona treatment the web passes one or several corona beams for receiving their electrostatic charge.
For applications where the electrostatic charge level is insufficient we offer CONSTAB CONCHARGE 970 as electret masterbatch to improve long term retention of the electrostatic charge in the web.
In the case of hydro-charging the electrostatic charge is implied into the web by means of water-jets. With this technology significantly higher levels of electrostatic charge can be applied to the web. However, a disadvantage is that the web needs to be dried after treatment. For this application a special charge enhancer technology is required which we are applying in our new CONSTAB CONCHARGE 1585.
Both products are produced with meltblown grade PP polymer carriers to warrant for excellent processability. As it is standard for CONSTAB products, only highest purity additives are used which warrant in combination with a perfect dispersion for best results.
